NEWS BRIEF

Denver7 reports that Colorado Attorney General Phil Weiser filed a federal lawsuit seeking to stop work on a planned immigration detention facility at the former Hudson Correctional Facility northeast of Denver. Federal officials planned to reopen the closed prison as the 1,200-bed Big Horn facility under a contract with GEO Group.

The lawsuit alleges that the Department of Homeland Security and Immigration and Customs Enforcement did not complete required environmental, residential-impact and site-suitability reviews. It asks the court to halt opening and operating the site until the agencies complete legally required analysis; the agencies had not responded to Denver7's requests for comment.

What to know

The lawsuit seeks a pause, not a final determination on the project. Its central claim is that federal agencies must complete required reviews before the proposed Hudson detention facility can open or operate.
