The Denver Gazette reports that Gov. Jared Polis signed an executive order aimed at protecting Colorado pollinators, including bees and butterflies. The order directs state agencies to develop a statewide conservation strategy, prioritize pollinator-friendly practices on state lands, support habitat work by local governments and landowners, and expand habitat within the state highway system.
The order follows state agency programs, a 2024 study of native pollinating insects, and 2026 legislation requiring state agencies to prioritize certain native plants in projects. According to the report, the executive order remains in effect through Jan. 1, 2032, unless a future governor rescinds it.
