Colorado Politics reports that Gov. Jared Polis intends to appoint a temporary representative for Colorado House District 32 after Rep. Manny Rutinel resigned Sept. 7. The state Democratic Party said it would not convene a vacancy committee so close to the November election.
Under the reported timeline, the party has 30 days after the resignation to fill the vacancy, after which the governor has five days to make an appointment. The governor’s office said Polis will not appoint either candidate running for the seat in November. Colorado Politics reported that the governor has until Oct. 12 to choose a short-term representative.
