Kristi Burton Brown is the outgoing Chairwoman of the Colorado GOP. On March 9, 2023, she sent this memo to the GOP mailing list. I found it interesting and wanted to share it again in my space on this website. Bottom line: Unaffiliated voters are vital to winning elections and it is important to find the commonalities between Colorado’s largest voting block and Republicans. Enjoy and please feel free to discuss with me – 970-227-8386 or me@scottkjames.com.
Side Note from Chairman Scott K. James
Hello Colorado Republicans,
I wanted to provide you with this important polling memo before my last week as State Chairman ends. The polling was funded by Sen. Barbara Kirkmeyer and specifically focuses on issues that Unaffiliated voters say they care about most. 44 percent of Colorado voters are registered as Unaffiliated.
It’s vital that Colorado Republicans keep our base and core values by staying true to our constitutional principles and rock-solid foundations. We are the pro-life, pro-Second Amendment Party who fights for rural Colorado and every single community and family across our great state. It is also vital that we win over more voters because majorities matter and we can’t move forward on a conservative agenda that focuses on those issues without attracting more Unaffiliated voters to our Party.
Not only will we have an essential presidential election in ’24, but we will also have an opportunity to defeat Yadira Caraveo in CD8 and re-elect Congresswoman Boebert in CD3. It’s very notable that one of the groups Colorado Democrats perform the worst with is Unaffiliated Hispanic voters. There are many of these voters in CD8 and CD3. In the 2022 election, a liberal exit poll identified that Hispanic voters were already 7% less likely to support Democrats than they did in 2020. Our work with our friends in the Hispanic community is making a difference, and we must continue it.
Additionally, with school board races coming up in April and November of 2023, this poll demonstrates that swing voters are solidly with Republicans on the issues of school choice and curriculum transparency for parents. Liberals are the only group surveyed who prefer secrecy to transparency in our schools. Parents are sick of being told they shouldn’t have an opinion on what our schools are doing.
Unaffiliated voters are already tired of the Democrats’ extreme overreach in the State Legislature. While they voted for Dems by an 11% margin in 2022, the generic ballot for Colorado legislative seats in 2024 shows only a 1% advantage for Democrats. It seems Unaffiliated voters already have buyer’s remorse. That is certainly an opportunity we should take advantage of moving forward.
Over 40% of men, women, and moderates strongly agree with Republicans that we must secure our border. 70% say that crime is getting worse in Colorado. Without a border, we don’t have a country. It’s critical that we continue to highlight the security crisis caused by Joe Biden and Democrats at our southern border.
One very important takeaway from this poll is that 73% of Unaffiliated voters already support women hearing about abortion reversal or want to hear more information themselves. Only 5% were opposed, despite Democrats constantly trying to withhold this life-saving information from women. We must provide more information and support to women and families and come alongside them as they choose life. Colorado Democrats have lied and used shameful scare tactics when it comes to messaging around abortion. We must continue to stand firm and speak straight with voters. We are the pro-life party.
It’s clear that there is a path ahead for Colorado Republicans. Let’s boldly take it, and…
Never Surrender!
