According to The Gazette, Colorado Springs will receive more than $10 million in FEMA funding for flood-related work. About $2.6 million is intended to reimburse eight 2023 creek-bank stabilization projects, while more than $8 million supports channel improvements along Cottonwood Creek and Monument Creek. The city submitted $8.3 million in repair costs for the stabilization work; five projects are complete and three remain in design.
What to know
The FEMA awards cover only a fraction of the city’s approved projects. The creek-bank funding reimburses some 2023 flood repairs, while the larger award supports an 18-month project intended to reduce future flood risk along two creek channels.
