A few recaps from this last week…
Thanks to two incredibly smart and talented people who, after reading one of my blog posts from last week, stepped forward to volunteer to serve with me on a Strategic Plan Committee. Many of you know Lyn Tausan – she is brilliant and active and will assist in finalizing our strategic plan – and Platteville Mayor Adrienne Sandoval – ditto what I said about Lyn – the party will be well served by the thoughts from these bright people.
Thanks to Kathleen Chandler of Independence Institute and the people who attended the Boards and Commissions training on Tuesday. Kathleen will continue to work with us on the Local Government Project. Weld County has 33 municipalities, 17 school boards, and countless water, sewer, recreation, and metro districts. There is a whole lot of local government going on in Weld County and Republicans MUST be at the center. Read more HERE.
We had our very first Precinct Pizza Party on Thursday evening at Ben’s Brick Oven Pizza. District H Captain Evelyn Harlan and District I Captain Ty Kissler joined 2nd Vice Chair Nila Croll and me for a great conversation with fellow Republicans. These gatherings are very casual and social – we just want to chat with and get to know our fellow Republicans, offering ideas for involvement as we get ready for the 2024 election cycle. We enjoyed a surprise visit from Congressman Ken Buck – THANKS to Pamela Douglas for THESE PICTURES. Check THE CALENDAR for upcoming Precinct Pizza Parties.
A couple of things for the week ahead…
Our Executive Committee Meeting is Tuesday night with the new start time of 7:00 p.m. at Roche Constructors in Greeley. Please remember the Weld GOP Republican Roundtable that starts at 6:00. As I outlined in previous posts, the Roundtable will serve as a less structured and more conversational forum in which all topics and ideas will be openly discussed. No formal business will be conducted at these roundtables and all will be welcome to attend both the informal roundtable and the more formal business meeting. I will not have a formal agenda – this is open discussion.
I was contacted by Bill Hall, a long-time Greeley businessman, and Republican. Bill is interested in forming a Get Out the Vote group. He wants to speak to Republicans about their involvement in the last election and plan for 2024. This is top of mind for me. We must do the hard work of community organizing and chasing down the ballots after they have been dropped. Interested? Please email and let me know.
I was in the State Capital on Thursday fighting the bad ideas of the majority Democrats.
As I was waiting to speak to a particular Democrat senator who might lean toward freedom on land use, I was speaking to a friend about the tone and tenor of this year’s legislative session. For the past several years, we have known the Democrats are leftists. Since Polis took office, we have known the Democrats to be emboldened, radical leftists. But this year is different.
This year it seems personal. Even vindictive. We have seen legislation attack specific companies. While not inclusive of a specific name, we know the intent and the target of the sponsor. Weld County has come under attack. Thank God for Weld’s elected Republican legislators for fighting the good fight, but the deck is so stacked.
The bottom line, General Assembly Democrats hate us. At a minimum, they don’t trust us. They want to tell you what to drive. How your house is built. Where your house is built. How you mow your lawn. The General Assembly Democrats trust the power of government more than the power of the individual. That is wrong and that is why we must work hard to elect Republicans.
Keep the faith, Weld GOP. Our ideas win.
