My tongue is in my cheek. Not everyone loves meetings and they can get a bad rap. I sit in a lot of them. Some good, some not. Meetings are essential to efficiently and effectively conducting the business of any organization. As Chair of the Weld County Republicans, it is my intention to increase both the efficiency and effectiveness of the way we conduct our business in a meeting.
Article V of the Weld County Republican Central Committee Bylaws addresses meetings of our organization. Currently, the Weld GOP Executive Committee meets on the third Tuesday of the month at 6:30 p.m. at Roche Construction in Greeley. Article VII, Section 2 of the bylaws defines the Executive Committee as:
- The Chair, the 1st Vice Chair, the 2nd Vice Chair, the Secretary and the Treasurer of the Weld GOP
- The Chairs of the Weld County auxiliary organizations formally recognized by the Central Committee
- The Chairs of each respective senatorial, representative, and judicial district in Weld County
- The Chairs of each of the county commissioner districts
- A representative for each countywide elected office
- District Captains shall be voting bonus members of the Executive Committee
We’re streamlining and increasing the efficiency of our meetings!
- I run meetings with a reasonably “tight gavel,” meaning we stay on the agenda and on task.
- Beginning with the March Executive Committee Meeting, we will move our start time to 7:00 p.m.
- While I prefer in-person attendance, I understand the size of our county and the busy schedules of Executive Committee members, therefore, electronic attendance at meetings is allowed in our bylaws. It is my intention to improve our technology at these meetings making for easier attendance via teleconference.
- While the Weld GOP is more than appreciative of the Roche organization for allowing us to use their facility, it is my intention to find a larger venue for our meetings equipped with better technology for hosting hybrid meetings.
Introducing, the Weld Republican Roundtable
Beginning in April, the Executive Committee Officers will host a Weld Republican Roundtable before each month’s Executive Committee Meeting at 6:00 p.m. The Roundtable will serve as a less structured and more conversive forum in which all topics and ideas will be openly discussed. No formal business will be conducted at these roundtables and all will be welcome to attend both the informal roundtable and the more formal business meeting.
I welcome your input on meetings – always feel free to contact me via email or call/text (970) 227-8386
