NEWS BRIEF

Colorado Public Radio reports that payments from Colorado’s Medicaid agency to in-home care company FreedomCare rose from $1 million last year to $22 million this year. State lawmakers on the Medicaid Commission raised concerns about agency transparency and oversight as Colorado faces a projected budget shortfall for 2027-28.

The Department of Health Care Policy and Financing has terminated its agreement with FreedomCare and alleges the company failed to maintain systems intended to protect members and ensure continuity of care. FreedomCare’s attorney disputed the findings, according to the report, saying the company responded to the agency’s concerns.

What to know

The state’s dispute with FreedomCare remains in court. Colorado’s Medicaid agency has ended its agreement with the company, while FreedomCare disputes the agency’s findings. Lawmakers said they want clearer communication and stronger oversight of Medicaid spending.
