NEWS BRIEF
The Loveland Reporter-Herald reported that a Larimer County jury awarded $65 million in damages in a wrongful-death case following a 2022 Interstate 25 crash near Mead that killed Loveland resident Megan Arneson. The award followed a five-day trial involving the driver and transport company connected to an excavator that struck an overpass, according to a release from the family’s law firm.
The Colorado State Patrol determined the excavator was improperly loaded and too high to clear the bridge, according to the release. Court records cited by the Reporter-Herald show the driver pleaded guilty in 2023 to vehicular homicide-reckless driving and received a Community Corrections sentence in January 2024.

The jury award concerns a 2022 crash in which bridge debris struck Arneson’s vehicle after an excavator being transported on I-25 hit an overpass. The reported damages award followed a civil wrongful-death trial and is separate from the driver’s criminal case.
