NEWS BRIEF

Colorado Public Radio reported that the Colorado Supreme Court declined to hear Tina Peters’ challenge to her original sentence on charges related to unauthorized access to Mesa County voting equipment. Peters was originally sentenced to nearly nine years in prison, and the Colorado Court of Appeals had ordered resentencing over comments by the trial judge.

Gov. Jared Polis commuted Peters’ sentence earlier this year, and she was released June 1, according to the report. The Supreme Court did not take up arguments Peters raised about her prosecution, including claims involving constitutional immunity and juror misconduct.

What to know

The court’s decision leaves in place the Court of Appeals’ rejection of Peters’ additional challenges to her prosecution. Her previously ordered resentencing did not occur before Gov. Jared Polis commuted her sentence, Colorado Public Radio reported.
