NEWS BRIEF

FOX31 reports that Longmont is delaying a final decision on replacing 15 Flock automatic license plate reader cameras while officials review related policies and procedures. The city council had agreed to use a different provider, Axon, while removing the Flock cameras. Longmont Public Safety said the review follows local and national concerns about data collection, storage, access, law-enforcement use, privacy, transparency and public trust. The department said the technology has been used in criminal cases and to help locate missing people and fugitives.

What to know

Longmont has not completed its transition away from 15 Flock cameras. Officials are continuing a policy review before reaching a final decision, with attention to privacy, accountability and the public-safety use of license plate reader data.
