The Denver Post, via Greeley Tribune, reported that foreign actors gained access to computer systems at two small private Colorado water utilities in late August. The governor’s office said the utilities each serve fewer than 200 people and were not identified publicly.
According to the governor’s office, individuals changed equipment settings, disabled remote access and alarms, and altered pumping cycles. The office said the incidents were brief, providers addressed the risks, and, to the state’s knowledge, treatment processes and water quality were not impacted.

State officials said they could not confirm which foreign actors were involved. They cited ongoing national efforts by an Iranian-backed group to access drinking-water and wastewater systems, while saying Colorado providers were being encouraged to review security measures and make needed updates.
